DISTRICT 2 IS HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW

    • At the Legislative Session held on September 15, 2025, the County Council approved an amended version of Bill 55-25 by a vote of 5–2.

    • Bill 55-25 replaces the existing 7-district map with a new 9-district map for County Council representation, effective for the 2026 and 2030 County Council elections.

    • The bill includes two key exhibits:

      • Exhibit A – the proposed map with boundaries for nine Council districts.

      • Exhibit B – a Population & Demographic Summary showing population and racial/ethnic breakdowns by district under the new plan.

    • Until the new Council members are sworn in after the 2026 election, the current 7-district boundaries remain in effect for constituent services.

    • The expansion from 7 to 9 districts and subsequent redistricting was required by a prior charter amendment passed in 2024. Baltimore County

    • The redrawing was based on data from the 2020 U.S. Census, to ensure that districts have roughly equal population in compliance with legal requirements. countycouncil.baltimorecountymd.gov

    • According to the Council and supporters, the new map reflects public input gathered during hearings, aims to strengthen representation for historically underrepresented communities, and attempts to avoid partisan or incumbent-based gerrymandering. countycouncilweb.s3.amazonaws.com

  • The new 9-district map takes effect for the 2026 County Council election (and remains in effect through 2030). Until then, the existing 7-district map remains in force for constituent services.

  • Not necessarily, it depends on where you live and how the boundaries shift under the new plan. Some residents may remain in equivalent areas even under a new district number; others may find they are now in a different district, or grouped differently with neighboring communities.

  • The expansion was mandated by a charter amendment approved by voters in 2024, with the aim of improving representation as the county population grew.

    • Check your address. Look up the new district boundaries on the interactive map and see which of the 9 districts you fall into after the redistricting.

    • Share with neighbors. Not everyone may be aware that district boundaries have changed. Sharing the map and FAQs helps ensure people know who will represent them going forward.

    • Stay informed. Monitor the Council’s website for updates about when constituent services transition to the new districts, and any resources to help residents adjust.
